9-1-1 EP on Buck and TK’s cumbersome alternate in Lone Star Crossover
Kind warning: The following interview contains mild spoilers from Monday 9-1-1 Crossover event.
Worlds (and fire stations) collided with 9-1-1: Lone Star on the first 9-1-1 crossover on Monday, and it was absolutely insane. We’re talking about massive forest fires, an almost fatal helicopter crash, metaphorical and literal ghosts – the works.
And while we’re all for personal growth, we really need to talk about the incredibly awkward interaction between Buck (Oliver Stark of 9-1-1) and TK (Ronen Rubinstein of Lone Star) at the end of the class. After enjoying the daring rescue of Owen and Hen, Buck kindly invited his new Texas buddy, “If you’re ever in LA, we should meet.”
“Sure,” replied TK. “I have to mention, however, that I already have a boyfriend – and that’s pretty serious. But it was really nice to meet you, man. “This unexpected reaction left Buck speechless and, as you can see in the photo above, amazed.
Not only is showrunner Tim Minear a “funny moment,” he tells TVLine that he recorded this exchange because “it was also a way to include a reference to ‘Tarlos’ in the episode. What we have done successfully here is that nobody has the feeling that they are on the sidelines. So it’s a bit of fan service, but it’s show service too.
To be fair, this isn’t the first time a new acquaintance has made assumptions about Buck’s sexuality. (We’ll never forget when that friendly Christmas elf mistook him for Christopher’s other father in season 3.) Why was he so surprised by TK’s answer? When asked if Buck doesn’t even know how to get to people, Minear admits, “I think he may not be aware at all.”
