A celebration for each good thing Taylor Swift has completed this yr
Dropped one of the best surprises of 2020.
The singer-songwriter was forced to cancel her concerts and slow down for a while and was suddenly full of creativity. The result: July’s Folklore, an alternative album that she described as “wistful and full of escape” and “sad, beautiful, tragic”, was released just 11 months after her seventh CD, Lover.
“For me, my imagination has gone wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness,” she explained in an Instagram post of the CD, of which only her team, her family and her boyfriend knew. “Using a pen has been my way of escaping into fantasy, history, and memory. I have told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and humor they deserve.”
In late November – when the CD’s six Grammy nominations were announced – Swift caught another surprise, ditching her new film folklore: the long pond studio sessions on Disney + and giving fans a glimpse into the intimate recording session she and they had Jack Antonoff held at Aaron DessnerLong Pond Studio in the Hudson Valley, New York.
