Ant-Man and the Wasp 3: Quantumania release date announced for early 2023

The third entry in Marvel’s Ant-Man franchise was posted on February 17, 2023. This latest entry, officially titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, will see the return of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Evangeline Lily as Hope Van Dyne. Also returning are Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, who made her debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp. The Ant-Man 3 release date and logo were revealed as part of the Marvel Studios Phase 4 trailer released this morning.

Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is again directed by Peyton Reed, who made the first two films. While not many details of the plot are known yet, it appears that based on the subtitle, the film will tackle the quantum realm that was an integral part of the MCU in both the Ant-Man films and Avengers: Endgame.

The first two Ant-Man films aren’t box office hits like some of the other MCU films, but fans enjoyed that these films were little, fun adventures that don’t deal too much with the enormous stakes of the MCU. The third entry could be a much bigger battle, however, as a major villain from the comics was announced for premiere in that film.

It was announced that Jonathan Majors was cast as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man 3. While majors might only play a small role in this film, Kang the Conqueror is a massive villain from the comics and his looks could have a massive impact on the MCU goes on. Kang could be the next Thanos in this universe.

In Ant-Man 3, Kathryn Newton will also play Cassie, Scott’s now teenage daughter, and Emma Fuhrmann, who played Cassie in Avengers: Endgame. Fans could see Cassie become her own superhero, like in the comics where she adopted various aliases, including Stinger, Stature, and Ant-Girl.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is released five years after its last entry. However, Ant-Man played a huge role in Avengers: Endgame. With the MCU’s announcement for its upcoming release, both the last half of 2021 and the entire half of 2022 will be overflowing with MCU projects, including both movies and Disney + TV shows. This film sits between Captain Marvel 2 (now The Marvels) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1.3 which will be released in May 2023.

In addition to Ant-Man 3’s release date, Marvel’s latest video included more exciting details, including small bits of footage from The Eternals, directed by Chloe Zhao, which has won two major Academy Awards. Further details were title releases for The Marvels and Black Panther 2, officially titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Lupita Nyong’o said the next Black Panther film will honor the legacy of Chadwick Boseman and “will respect the loss we all have experienced as a cast and as a world.”

The last movie on the board is another reminder that the Fantastic Four are coming to the MCU. The only detail known so far is that the film will be directed by Jon Watts, who directed the first two MCU Spiderman films along with the upcoming star-studded Spiderman: No Way Home. However, Kang the Conqueror’s involvement in Quantumania could lead to the Fantastic Four being inducted into the MCU, as he has dealt with the team many times in the comics.

More details will be announced shortly, but fans can at least get excited about when they can expect Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In the meantime, there are still plenty of MCU projects to look forward to, including Loki, which will premiere on Disney + in June. The MCU has no plans to slow down, and Quantumania appears to be a big part of the MCU going forward.
