After learning about the offense Cicely Tyson, Michelle and Barack Obama took to their platforms to pay tribute to the actress. As you know, Cicely Tyson died yesterday at the age of 96 and she was honored by many big names and fans, including the former POTUS and FLOTUS.
Barack posted a picture with the legendary actress and Black Trailblazer, himself and Michelle, and another of himself who awarded Tyson the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his presidency.
Next to these photos he wrote a very sweet and touching message.
In part it says, “When Cicely Tyson was born, the doctors predicted that she wouldn’t make it for three months because of a murmur in her heart. The kind that would not only beat 96 years, but would shape the world with which few can keep up. ‘
He, of course, continued to talk about her amazing work and also praised the famous actress for her determination to “tell her truth”.
What this entailed was sometimes years without a job because she refused to take on roles that she reduced only to her race or gender at a time when this was the norm.
The former president recalled presenting Cisely the Medal of Freedom, calling her a “trailblazer” whose legacy could not be measured by her Emmys, Tony and Oscar alone, but by the barriers she broke and who Dreams that made it possible.
Michelle also posted two pictures, both of herself and Tyson.
Among other things, the respected former first lady applauded the late actress “Humanity”.
She wrote in the headline, “Only by walking into a room did she have the opportunity to raise everyone around her. Carrying forward a flame that not only led them for 96 landmark years, but paved the way for so many of us. ‘
