Bartees Unusual and Lorenzo Wolff cowl Judee Sill’s “The Pearl”: Pay attention

On March 12, producer and multi-instrumentalist Lorenzo Wolff will release Down Where the Valleys Are Low: Another World for Judee Sill, a tribute album to the late singer-songwriter Judee Sill. Guests on the album include Bartees Strange, Bobby Hawk, Osei Essed, Mary-Elaine Jenkins, Grace McLean, Kate Ferber, Emily Holden and Michael Cerveris. Below, listen to Wolff and Bartees Strange’s version of “The Pearl” from Sill’s 1973 album “Heart Food”.

“I’ve brought dirtier, earthbound elements to the fore, using Sill’s words and melodies as parts of a portrait that sheds light on the angry, cruel, beautiful, complicated, and dangerous woman she was,” Wolff said in a press release. “I like to imagine Judee listening to this album and telling me to piss off.”
