Bon Iver pledges royalties in assist of gender equality

Bon Iver has announced that they will donate five percent of their annual release fees to A Billion, the band’s campaign aimed at ending gender inequality, domestic violence and sexual abuse. The band was inspired by Jeff Tweedy, who pledged to donate five percent of his writer’s share income to Black Lives Matter organizations to highlight the movement for Black Lives and Black Women’s Blueprint. Below is Bon Iver’s announcement.

Before the 2020 elections, the Eaux Claires Festival, the Wisconsin music festival founded by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Aaron Dessner of the National, led an election initiative in the state “For Wisconsin.” As part of the initiative, Vernon met undecided voters and debuted new material. Joe Biden eventually won Wisconsin.
