Emma Thompson suggests Hollywood movie novels as utterly unbalanced and alteristic

There’s an enduring stereotype in Hollywood that actors can star in romantic films well into their fifties or beyond, while actresses find that the roles dry up quickly once they’re forty. Recently acclaimed thespian Emma Thompson took the entertainment industry out of business for this trend while discussing their upcoming film Good Luck To You, Leo Grande, in which Thompson’s character plays a younger man.

“It is perfectly acceptable to George Clooney – who is delightful – to have someone 40 years younger than him or 30 years younger than him. If I have someone who plays me romantically, he has to exhume someone because I ‘You get what I mean? It’s totally and totally unbalanced. When Leo Grande, the movie we make, is talking to people and people are not averse to seeing someone who is 61 years old and largely naked with them a much younger person, it will be very interesting. We have to keep being brave. ”

While the roles of actresses have diversified in recent years, with a greater influx of female directors seeking to reflect their life experiences on the big screen, the age differences between the lead roles in big films persist. For example, Daniel Day-Lewis starred in the 2018 Phantom Thread, while the actress who worked across from him was 26 years younger than him.

Similarly, in David Fincher’s Mank, 62-year-old Gary Oldman played the main character of famous Hollywood screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz. His wife Sara is played by 33-year-old Tuppence Middleton, even though the two were the same age in real life. The MCU is also not excluded from this trend, as the screen paint of Spider-Man’s guardian Aunt May steadily decreases with each further cinematic adaptation of the franchise.

Good luck to you, Leo Grande is directed by Sophie Hyde and produced by Genesius Pictures. The film tells the story of Nancy Stokes, played by Thompson, a widow in her fifties who longs for adventure, human connection and, above all, good sex.

To accomplish all of these things, Stokes hires the services of Leo Grande, a “sex therapist”, to pamper her with a night of passion and bliss. Hyde, an Australian filmmaker whose previous work includes Animals of 2018 and 52 Tuesday of 2013, announced that, with the best of luck, Leo Grande will aim to explore the world of sex and intimacy in a humorous way.

“I am thrilled to work with the incredibly fun and heartbreakingly honest Emma Thompson to explore intimacy and desire and bring to screen a relationship that feels unexpected and delightful. At a time when our need for one another is so alive It will be a pleasure to make and show that connection between two people that is fun, sexy and moving. ”
