Godzilla Vs. Kong arrives 2 months early, in theaters and on HBO max for March

Godzilla versus Kong has a new release date and brings the much anticipated monster brawl to screens much earlier than previously anticipated. The 2018 sequel to King of the Monsters is one of the films that will debut both in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time. After working with Legendary Entertainment, which co-funded the blockbuster, WarnerMedia decided to extend this release for two full months. The two legendary monsters will challenge it this March.

The film had previously premiered on May 21. Godzilla Vs Kong will now arrive on March 26th. This means that it will be one of the first massive blockbuster releases of 2021. Although it opens in an extremely handicapped theater market, many theaters in the US remain closed, and a large portion of overseas markets are also struggling. This is particularly brutal as these films tend to do well overseas. That’s probably why Legendary wasn’t happy when WarnerMedia originally announced that its entire film would hit both theaters and HBO Max in 2021. Especially since Netflix reportedly offered north of $ 200 million for the rights.

But both sides did it and the plan will continue. This undoubtedly means that WarnerMedia had to pay extra cash to keep Legendary happy. This makes this an expensive proposition as the latest entry in the Godzilla franchise is said to be priced at $ 160 million before the marketing costs. Given the nature of the cinema market, it will be difficult for the studio to reclaim that budget. Much like Wonder Woman before 1984, this has now become a streaming piece especially. Whether that pays off in the end or not will be the big question. Right now, that means fans have a choice of whether to watch the film from the comfort of their homes or the theater, and soon.

Adam Wingard, best known for directing Blair Witch and Death Note, is at the forefront. Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler will repeat their roles from King of the Monsters. In addition, much remains a mystery since we haven’t seen a full trailer, just bits and pieces of footage and some toy leaks. But with the release date postponed, we should expect a trailer every day now. Even without a trailer, it’s pretty clear what it’s about; A modern showdown between two of the most famous monsters in the history of cinema.

The cast also includes Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2, Hunt for the Wilders), Brian Tyree Henry (Joker, Spider-Man: In den Spinnenverse), Demian Bichir (The Nun, Alien: Covenant), Alexander Skarsgard (The Stand), Big LIttle Lies), Eisa Gonzalez (Baby Driver, Hobbs & Shaw), Jessica Henwick (Underwater, Iron Fist), Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3, The Prestige) and Lance Reddick (John Wick: Chapter 3, The Wire). We will keep you updated as more details become available. This news was previously reported by Variety.
