How SNL completely recreated Kamala Harris’ white trouser swimsuit in only a few minutes
Joe Biden wins the 2020 US election: celebrities react
After more than 30 years on the air, Saturday Night Live has amassed a ton of closet with just about every piece of clothing you might need.
But despite their huge collection, the show’s cloakroom team was still struggling to recreate Vice President Elect Kamala Harris‘Ensemble from her acceptance speech on Saturday night in Delaware. As an SNL producer and costume designer Tom Broecker and cloakroom ladder Dale Richards said PopSugar, their work began around 8:30 p.m. when Kamala took the stage in front of President Elect Joe Biden in her off-white Carolina Herrera suit.
Tom recalled, “My assistant started taking screenshots of everything [Harris] so we could get all the details right – the shoes, jewelry, hair, makeup, blouse, and suit. By 9:00 p.m. we had pulled together all of the “research” photos and began to search our inventory to see if anything could work. Every shop in town was closed for hours. There was no way we could buy this look anywhere except in our back rooms. “
They got lucky, however, having bought a white suit from a suit supplier for a sketch the previous year in which Cecily Strong played Melania Trump.
