How Zac Efron’s fire starter differs from the original Stephen King adaptation
For those unfamiliar with Firestarter, the original novel followed Andy and Charlie, a father / daughter duo on the run from a government agency called The Shop. While studying, Andy and his future wife Victoria took part in an experiment with LSD, which gave them unique, albeit limited, psionic abilities. When Charlie is born, it is soon discovered that she has strong pyrokinetic powers, which makes the family a target and Victoria is tragically killed in one of the shop’s attempts to conquer. The 1984 Firestarter star featured David Keith, Drew Barrymore, Freddie Jones, Heather Locklear, Martin Sheen, and George C. Scott. You can count Stephen King among those who disliked the movie, as he described it in 1986 as “tasteless”.
