James Wan’s Malignant will get an HBO Max launch date, new image
Are you ready for ‘vicious’?
James Wan |‘s next film, the little horror thriller, which might also be known as Malignantfinally got a release date. This is just the latest development on the vicious front. Earlier this month, Warner Bros. released a trailer featuring a collection of clips from the studio’s new 2021 slate that is receiving recent HBO Max releases as well as theatrical premieres. The collection of clips provided our first look at footage of Malignant revealing the star Annabelle Valais‘Character who wakes up to a creepy figure rising from the ground behind her. How scary.
Wan announced on his Instagram on Tuesday that Malignant would hit theaters on September 10 and HBO Max. He also shared a menacing new image from the film. The picture shows a gloved hand holding a knife with golden wings by the blade. It is unclear what this knife is for, or how it will flow into Malignant’s plot (which we don’t yet know about but do know Valais is the lead). While Wan did not provide any details or explanation of the knife’s plot, he offered a small caption on his new film.
He shared, “I finally got it wrapped up last week. This was supposed to be my ‘little horror thriller’ that I do between the big guys, but the pandemic has pushed it for as long as the big guys.”

Wan continued, “I’m super excited for this movie. I don’t even know how to describe it. I wanted to do something original and genre-immersive that was different from my other work, but still in the spirit of the horror thriller, I grew up with. More are to come. ”
There is more to come! With a confirmed release date of September 10th, we should get our first trailer for Malignant sometime in the spring. There are also new images and teasers to consider, all of which will be released in the coming months. All in all, the malicious commercial seems to be starting and ready to roll. It’s also about time, considering that the main photography on Malignant took place back in the fall of 2019.
Malignant hits theaters and on HBO Max on September 10th. Check out the new pic and accompanying caption of Wan (as shared by Warner Bros. on Twitter) below. For more information, please see our full Warner Bros. HBO Max release calendar.
