Jared Leto on the rumors concerning the Joker methodology of suicide bombing
“I never gave Margot Robbie a dead rat.”
By now you’ve probably heard some of the larger-than-life stories Jared LetoPreparing to play Joker in the 2016s Suicide squad. Leto has a track record of taking performance preparation seriously, and as such, he’s no stranger to diving headfirst into major transformations or changing his behavior to improve character. So when reports surfaced from Leto’s Suicide Squad castmates, prior to the film’s release, that the actor did things like sending all the different animals or Leto himself sending the cast condoms and anal beads, it seemed a given. Strange, but still taken for granted.
At the time, Leto seemed to be confirming that he had actually given his castmates all of these unusual gifts. He even said E! News at one point: “I’ve done a lot of things to create a momentum, to create an element of surprise, a spontaneity, and to really break down any kind of walls that could be there. The Joker is someone who makes things not really respected like personal space or boundaries. ”
After five years it looks like Leto wants to set the record straight. The star of the Warner Bros. The little things sat down with GQ magazine to participate in their ongoing series, in which big stars dismantle their best-known characters. After talking about his appearances in The thin red line, Fight Club, Requiem for a dream, and Dallas Buyers ClubIt was time to discuss Suicide Squad. Leto started with a surprising but extremely accurate description of what it’s like to tackle the Joker role.

He started by telling GQ that “it’s an incredible opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the Joker,” and went on, “I think it’s the version of this generation that is taking on infamous Shakespearean character. Lots of people have played the role before, many people [will] play it in the future so it’s an opportunity to do something new and explore challenging territory. ”
From there, Leto took the opportunity to dispel some of the rumors of his wild tastes in gifts, particularly the live rat he gave to Robbie. According to Leto, he gave Robbie something much more normal and delicious: “It’s also interesting how this stuff takes on a life of its own. I never gave Margot Robbie a dead rat. That’s just not true. I actually gave her a lot of – I thought this place in Toronto that had great vegan cinnamon rolls and that was a very common thing. ”

Leto didn’t refute any other Joker rumors like giving away condoms to the suicide squad, which is very interesting. But it’s also (probably) not as interesting as the picture of him regularly giving Robbie vegan cinnamon buns while filming. This picture must now live side by side with the certainly long-lived picture of Leto in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The actor will repeat his Suicide Squad character for a short scene in the director Zack SnyderThe Justice League’s new cut. Based on the recent photos of Leto’s Justice League Joker, this version of the character doesn’t look like a guy handing out cinnamon buns.
