Large Sky Recap: Worst Case Situation

Big Sky’s Merrilee Legarski might want to Hold back planning a funeral for her husband Rick … because as we learn at the end of the show’s winter premiere, he’s not dead!

As viewers will remember, at the end of the Fall Finals, Cassie Dewell shot a bullet in the Montana State Trooper’s forehead right after she found him with the three women he was planning to associate with Canada. And here begins the episode on Tuesday in which Legarski is bleeding on the floor of the basement of the All In Bar. He is taken to the hospital where he does flatlines but is resuscitated and yet in a coma.

Cassie is incredibly shaken by what she did; Throughout the episode, she (understandably) hovers on the verge of a panic attack. When Jenny arrives on site while the emergency staff is taking care of Jerrie, Grace and Danielle, she is full of hope for Cody. But that is quickly dealt with when Sheriff Tubb’s officers dig up Cody’s truck that contains the dead PI’s body. Jenny screams and falls to her knees in grief while Cassie watches and weeps silently. (Side note: Even in her deep loss, this woman’s dedication to a detailed braid is commendable. At some point in the lesson, even if she is sobbing her eyes at home, Jenny is rocking a braid that would make Elsa jealous.)

At home, Ronald and his mother freak out. Police will ransack Legarski’s house with a view to linking him to the sex trade. When they find the hidden room where Rick kept all of his documents, Ronald will raise a toast. What’s more, thanks to the recovered victims, the cops know the other kidnapper is a truck driver with a custom paint job on his vehicle. So Ronald repaints the cab of his truck and plays with the license plate. Then he forges a plan to break into the Legarski house to root out anything that ties him to the crime. (Grace, Jerrie and Danielle can still identify him, but ONE THING AT A TIME MOTHER!)

Jenny and her son Justin hold a funeral and memorial service for Cody. The reception that follows includes some warm moments between the widow and Cassie, including the fact that Cassie steps on stage to sing Neil Young’s “Harvest” – Cody’s favorite song – after a constipated Jenny fails. Then both women are back in the office. “I never thought it would be you who would help me,” says Jenny, and the moment of attachment prompts Cassie to offer Jenny Cody’s place in the private investigation office. Jenny scoffs, but eventually agrees – until the Legarski case is put to bed.

Elsewhere, Jerrie is walking home when a man in a baseball cap calls out her name and follows her. It turns out that it’s just a guy she knows who “wanted to make sure you were okay” called Jimmy. The dynamic between them is a little unclear – it seems like he likes her, but she tells him that the days of talking to him are “over”. Still, she actually seems to like his concern. However, there is a note on her door that reads “You are not learning”, which goes back to what Ronald often said to his prisoners.

Unknown to everyone, Rick’s fingers twitch in the hospital, his heart rate monitor beeps faster and then he opens one eye!

Now it’s your turn. What do you think of the episode? Sound off in the comments!
