Mads Mikkelsen is the primary alternative to interchange Johnny Depp in Implausible Beasts 3
Warner Bros. wastes absolutely no time replacing Johnny Depp Fantastic Beasts 3. A few days ago, the actor announced that he had moved away from the sequel to the Harry Potter universe. It became known that Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to replace Depp as Gellert Grindelwald. Should the deal go through, it would mean a massive role for Mikkelsen in a huge franchise that could well expand to include two more films, provided everything goes according to plan.
According to several reports Mads Mikkelsen is high on the list to take on Johnny Depp as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. The sequel is already being shot, so the studio will most likely be looking for a replacement quickly. David Yates is directing the sequel, having directed the last four Harry Potter films as well as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Eddie Redmayne will return as Newt Scamander, with Jude Law re-playing his role as Albus Dumbledore. Depp made a brief cameo in the first Fantastic Beasts, followed by a major role in the 2018 sequel.
It all comes after that Johnny Depp lost his legal battle with the British newspaper The Sun, owned by the News Group Newspapers. Depp filed a defamation lawsuit after an article was published in 2018 calling him a “bully” in relation to his ex-wife Amber Heard. After Depp lost the suit, Warner Bros. urged him to step back from the role. Depp announced his departure on social media. Depp had only shot one scene before leaving the project. Though reported, he will still make around $ 10 million for his limited participation. Mads Mikkelson should be able to get in with a relatively clean board. Production is currently taking place in the UK
Mads Mikkelsen is no stranger to playing villains in large franchises. The actor played the villain Le Chiffre in the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale and Kaecilius in Doctor Strange from 2016. Mikkelsen also played the role of Galen Erson in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. One of the actor’s most famous roles was Hannibal Lecter in the TV series Hannibal. Some of his other credits are The Hunt, Valhalla Rising, and Clash of the Titans. Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol and Ezra Miller are also part of the ensemble for the latest entry into JK Rowling’s Wizarding World.
JK Rowling, who founded the Harry Potter franchise, co-wrote the script with Steve Cloves. Rowling was heavily involved in the spin-off series and is planning a five-film arc. To date, the Harry Potter films, including entries to Fantastic Beasts, have grossed more than $ 9 billion at the global box office, making them one of the most successful franchises in history. Fantastic Beasts 3 is currently set to hit theaters on July 15, 2022. We will keep you posted as soon as more updates are available. This message comes to us via deadline.
