Mother EP teases Christy’s destiny after Anna Faris’ departure
The departure of Anna Faris’ mother won’t stand in the way of Christy Plunkett’s happy ending.
Fans of the long-running CBS comedy can rest assured that Bonnie’s daughter won’t be pushed in front of a moving train, crushed by a baby wing or, worse, insulted by a kung fu voucher. Nor will she succumb to any of the many vices she has soberly kicked on her seven-year journey.
In an interview with TVLine, the series co-creator Gemma Baker assures us that viewers will indeed be “satisfied” with Christy’s “new path” when everything is in the premiere of the eighth season (broadcast on Thursday, November 5 at 9 / 8c) is revealed).
“One of the nice things about recovery is that people’s lives often get bigger and better than they could have imagined,” says Baker. “And that will be Christy’s experience. We’re pretty sure that our audience, many of whom have rooted for Christy since piloting, will be happy for her and satisfied with her new path. “
Meanwhile, Bonnie and her daughter from the apartment are at a crossroads. “Christy’s absence will have an impact on Bonnie throughout the season,” said Baker of Allison Janney’s character. “Part of Bonnie’s journey this year will be figuring out what she wants to do now that she is actually an adult.”
Part of this journey will involve Adam as the husband and wife get used to an empty nest. “With all the time alone, [Bonnie and Adam] Discover that they really like each other, ”teases Baker. “So much so that they try to help another couple reach their happiness level to get mixed results.”
Couples who may or may not need Bonnie and Adam’s help include Jill and Andy, who reached a difficult point early in season eight.
“Jill’s desire to move their relationship forward is causing some friction,” says Baker. “From this conflict, Jill will have the opportunity to find out who she really is and what she wants.”
Meanwhile, a new relationship will reveal “another side” to Marjorie, says Baker, as Christy’s former sponsor “falls in love with a new guy” for the first time since the death of her second husband, Victor. In return, “we’ll see a different side to our other ladies, too,” including Wendy and Tammy, “when [it’s revealed] they don’t like him. “
News that Faris had abandoned her role as Christy to pursue other opportunities was released on September 4th. At the time, Faris released a statement that read in part, “The past seven years with Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career. I’m so grateful to Chuck [Lorre], the writers and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. “
Based on the above, how do you think Mama will resolve Christy’s action? And what are you hoping for the eighth season without Anna Faris?
