MTV VMAs 2021 Announces Return to New York City with Live Audiences
The MTV Video Music Awards 2021 will take place on September 12th. This year’s VMAs will return to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York in front of a live audience.
MTV and the Barclays Center “are working closely with state and local officials to implement best practices to safely bring music fans from around the world together,” the announcement said. They pointed out the Barclays Center’s current health and safety protocols, which include separate seating areas for vaccinated and non-vaccinated guests, and noted that additional specific protocols will be announced closer to the event.
Last year’s VMAs were originally supposed to be held in Barclays, but the show had to be canceled. Some performances were filmed on location in New York, while others were reportedly filmed in remote cities like Los Angeles and Seoul. The show included appearances from Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, Miley Cyrus, DaBaby, The Black Eyed Peas, and more.
