New Amsterdam Season 3: Max and Helen Share ‘Confessions’ As COVID Ends – 2021 FIRST VIEW

The coronavirus pandemic will stand in for New Amsterdam near home when NBC medical drama returns – and yet, fans of Dr. Max Goodwin and Dr. Helen Sharpe had reason to celebrate despite difficult times in the hospital.

In TVLine’s exclusive first look at the third season (premiere in March 2021), Max and the psychiatrist Dr. Iggy Frome sports masks while standing in front of a medical isolation ward, with much cause for concern. “One of our characters signed COVID-19 at the beginning of the season,” reveals showrunner David Schulner TVLine. “In real life, we all know the people around us who are affected by this virus. So we knew our characters had to go through the same thing.”

But even in the midst of the hectic medical crisis there are small moments of peace and reflection, like in the photo below of two good friends (with potential for more).

“We try to tell our stories at breakneck speed so that the quieter moments feel deserved,” says Schulner. “The roof scenes by Max and Sharpe are a perfect example of this. They exist for the characters – and the audience – to catch their breath. By the time Max and Sharpe get on the roof, the day’s events have exhausted them and make them more vulnerable. You’ve earned your silence. And their confessions. “
