Prepare for even more nautical nonsense at Nickelodeon. The children’s network has given The Patrick Star Show, a SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off with the weak BFF the cheerful sea sponge, a series contract.

The news comes just hours after the launch of the streaming service Paramount + (fka CBS All Access), which includes the new SpongeBob movie Sponge on the Run as well as the franchise’s first spin-off, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years.

The Patrick Star Show, slated to air this summer, is another prequel that follows a younger Patrick Star (voiced by franchise veterinarian Bill Fagerbakke) who still lives at home with his family “where he does his own show for the neighborhood hosted his television turned into a bedroom, ”says the official logline. 13 episodes were ordered.

New characters include Cecil Star (Tom Wilson of SpongeBob), Patrick’s fun-loving, happy father who always puts his family first. Bunny Star (Another World’s Cree Summer), Patrick’s loving starfish mother who is a crazy oddball; Squidina Star (franchise veterinarian Jill Talley), Patrick’s eight-year-old sister, who sees herself as Patrick’s executive producer for his imaginary TV show; and GrandPat Star (The Penguins of Madagascar’s Dana Snyder), Patrick’s brilliant grandfather, the most intelligent member of the Star family.

“Nickelodeon is delving deeper into Bikini Bottom to give fans a glimpse of our lovable young adult Patrick Star and his entire family in a sitcom he can only imagine,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Nickelodeon Animation, in one Explanation. “This second original spin-off allows us to expand our reach, tell new stories, and connect with our audiences around the world who continue to love these characters.”

While the Patrick Star Show is airing on Nickelodeon, many other nicktoons are making the jump to Paramount +. The ViacomCBS steamer recently offered a first look at its CG animated Rugrats spin-offs and announced that live-action versions of Dora the Explorer and The Fairly OddParents are in development.
