Sacha Baron Cohen is withdrawing from Borat in the intervening time

Borat creator Sacha Baron Cohen has debated why it was now time to revive the Kazakh journalist, and while the sequel began as a cautionary story about the state of US politics, it developed too much given the ongoing global situation more. Despite the great success of Amazon Borat Subsequent MovieFilm, Baron Cohen has no plans to put the iconic mustache back on anytime soon.

“I got Borat out because of Trump. This movie had a purpose, and I don’t really see the purpose of doing it again. So yeah, it’s locked in the closet.”

This is no surprise given that the character of Borat shows a lot of dedication to the dedicated comedian Sacha Baron Cohen After previously revealing that in order to better humanize some of the conspiracy theorists featured in the film, the actor decided to stay with them for five days and stay in character for the duration of the character. Cohen revealed that his decision was best to show “that these are ordinary people, who are good people, who have just been fed this diet of lies. They are completely different from the politicians who are fed theirs self-motivated power who realized that they can create fear by spreading those lies through the most effective propaganda machine in history. “

While the sheer dedication to bringing Borat to life undoubtedly took its toll, Baron Cohen believes that 2020 was the absolutely right time to bring him back and that only Borat could save people from themselves.

“I felt that democracy was in jeopardy. I felt that people’s lives were in jeopardy and I felt compelled to quit the film.”

What Baron Cohen did not expect, however, was how much current global circumstances would change the film, which would eventually lead to significant changes in both the film’s production schedules and the film’s release schedule.

“The film was originally about the danger of Trump and Trumpism. What [the situation] Its spreading of lies and conspiracy theories has been shown to have a lethal effect. Instead of running away from how the world used it [the situation]I felt we should lean into it. Borat is a fake character played by me in the real world … if we got people to take off their masks it would be a fake character in a fake world, in a manipulated world, so the basis of the Comedy doesn’t work. ”

While the current state of the world resulted in a slightly different cinematic experience than Baron Cohen originally intended, his goal remained the same.

“I don’t mean to egotistically imply that people would see ‘Borat’ and not vote for Trump, but that was the goal.”

While Baron Cohen has no plans for the foreseeable future to re-summon the beloved character, one has to wonder what Borat thought of yesterday’s events …

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm plays Sacha Baron Cohen as the fictional Kazakh journalist and television personality Borat Sagdiyev and Maria Bakalova as his daughter Tutar, who is to be offered as a bride to Vice President Mike Pence in the 2020 presidential election. The film received critical acclaim for both Baron Cohen and Bakalova’s appearances and is now available for streaming courtesy of Amazon. This comes to us courtesy of Variety.
