Shadow and Bone TV Sequence: Launch Date, Trailer, Casting, and Extra

It’s a good time to be a Grishaverse fan! Netflix’s Shadow and Bone adaptation is on the way, and the streaming platform has started releasing information about the upcoming series, which stopped production back in March before COVID-19 closed Hollywood. TV Guide is here with the latest information on this highly anticipated new series – even as it finally premieres!

Based on Leigh Bardugo’s bestselling book series Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, this Netflix original promises to bring the fantastic world of novels of magic, romance and monsters to life. Shadow and Bone is set in a world divided in two by a magical expanse of darkness known as Shadow Fold. The story follows Alina Starkov, a young soldier who discovers her own hidden power and could finally unite her divided country, but political and magical machinations threaten to overwhelm Alina as she struggles to improve on her new power.

Six of Crows, on the other hand, is more of a heist adventure with a gang of criminals constantly on the lookout for their next job and the next big score. The series recap reveals a union of these two worlds and teases: “Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war right now, and it will take more than magic to survive.”

When will Shadow and Bone premier?

The series will premiere in April 2021, as confirmed by Netflix in the teaser above for the fantasy series. An exact release date hasn’t been set yet, but the teaser gives us a threatening preview of the series, with Ben Barnes as Darkling saying, “You and I are going to change the world.”

Who was occupied?

Netflix has announced a ton of auditions for the upcoming series, and it’s full of a very famous name or two as well as lots of fresh faces.

On the Shadow and Bone side, Jessie Mei Li will play our heroine Alina Starkov. Ben Barnes was cast as General Kirigan, also known as The Darkling, and Archie Renaux was chosen as Alina’s childhood (and love interest) friend Malyen Oretsev. Other cast members for Shadow and Bone Season 1 include Sujaya Dasgupta as Zoya Nazyalensky, Daisy Head as Genya Safin, Zoë Wanamaker as Baghra, Kevin Eldon as Apparat, Luke Pasqualino as David, Julian Kostov as Fedyor, Jasmine Blackborow as Marie, Gabrielle Brooks as Nadia and Simon Sears as Ivan.

As for Six of Crows, Freddy Carter was cast as Kaz Brekker. He is accompanied by Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa and Kit Young as Jesper Fahey. Calahan Skogman will play Matthias Helvar and Danielle Galligan will play Nina Zenik. The only main character from Six of Crows whose casting has not been announced is Wylan Van Eck.

If you want to put faces on names, Leigh Bardugo posted a cute appeal video on Instagram in which all the actors reveal what characters they are playing.

What is the plot of Netflix’s Shadow and Bone?

Based on the published synopsis, the show will find its focus in the first novel in the Shadow and Bone series when Alina discovers her power and realizes she is a Grisha – someone born with magic. She is taken away by the Darkling (the Grisha leader) to study with fellow Grisha so that she can use her strength to destroy the Shadow Fold, a massive barrier of darkness that divides her land, Ravka, in two.

How will the two worlds Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows work together?

Although Shadow and Bone may be the title of this TV series (after Bardugo’s first Grishaverse novel), Six of Crows fans will not be left in the dark as Season 1 will attempt to merge both Bardugo book series into one narrative. The Six of Crows novels follow a gang of criminals in Ketterdam (an industrial town outside the territory of Ravkan) as they take on a mission to rescue a prisoner held by one of Ravka’s neighboring enemies.

Showrunner Eric Heisserer announced in December 2020 that he and Bardugo were creating prequel stories for the main characters of Six of Crows to introduce them to the new series so the audience could get to know them, although the events of Six of Crows didn’t Play on the screen until the series finishes the Shadow and Bone trilogy story. “What Leigh [Bardugo] and I essentially had to invent prequel stories for the key Six of Crows characters this season – Kaz, Inej, and Jesper – to fit what happens in the Shadow and Bone story, “Heisserer explained in a statement heavy lifting. “

“We took the stories from Shadow and Bone and the characters from Six of Crows and brought them together in what I think was a really unexpected way,” Bardugo said in a statement. “Eric [Heisserer] and our writers’ room and directors have built something completely new that somehow still stays true to the characters and the heart of the stories. And it wasn’t easy! Eric took two fantasy series – Powers and Creatures and Horrors and Raids – and molded them into this cohesive, incredible thing. ”

Heisserer also teased that characters cross paths that don’t meet in the books. “I get really excited when I talk about certain characters who meet certain other characters – meetings that aren’t in the books because they’re on different schedules,” he said. “But they happen on the show, and I think those moments are meaningful.”

How many episodes will it have?

Season 1 will consist of eight episodes.

Is there a trailer?
