Simpsons First Look: A real crime story brings the “actual” Lisa Simpson to city

The Sunday episode of The Simpsons (Fox, 8 / 7c) contains one of the show’s most metast moments to date and brings Yeardley Smith (aka the voice of Lisa Simpson) to Springfield … as herself!

Before your head explodes, let’s explain: In the episode titled “Podcast News,” Grampa Simpson is accused of a scandalous crime that caught the attention of Smith, who happened to be watching a podcast titled “Small Town Dicks” on the real life. (Take a deep breath. We’re done.)

“Podcast News” also marks the return of David X. Cohen, who wrote several iconic Simpsons episodes in the mid to late 1990s.

Further guest voices in the episode on Sunday are Morgan Fairchild (Falcon Crest), Stellan Skarsgard (Chernobyl) and Christine Nangle (Inside Amy Schumer).

In addition to Lisa Simpson for 32 seasons (Trand Counting), Smith has loaned her talents to shows such as Herman’s Head (1991-1994) and Dharma & Greg (1997-2002). More recently, she has appeared in episodes of Mom (2017), The Mindy Project (2014-2015), Revenge (2014) and The Big Bang Theory (2010).
