Surprise Lady 1984 wins third weekend field workplace for $ Three million and makes over $ 131 million worldwide
This should come as no surprise as there is nothing new to be found in the local cineplex, most of which are closed across the country. Wonder Woman 1984 wins the box office for the third year in a row after making $ 3 million. The long-awaited sequel opened in theaters and on HBO Max on Christmas Day and has grossed over $ 131 million worldwide. Only $ 32 million of that total has come from the box office as the public health crisis persists. As of this writing, less than 40% of North American theaters are open.
Asia is currently dominating the global box office thanks to dealing with the pandemic. The cinemas are opening and people are returning to the theaters to see the 2020 and 2021 films. However, Japan has seen a surge lately and is in another lockdown period. In 2020, Asia Pacific accounted for 51% of that global checkout number. Hopefully North American theaters will flourish again in 2021.
The Croods: A New Age held second place at the box office this weekend after grossing $ 1.8 million. The animated family film has been a steady earner since it opened seven weeks ago and has grossed nearly $ 130 million worldwide. Tom Hanks’ News of the World ranked third after $ 1.2 million, while Monster Hunter ranked fourth with $ 1.1 million. To date, the film has made only $ 17.4 million worldwide.
Fatale was in fifth place this weekend after raking in $ 670,000. The Hillary Swank & Michael Ealy thriller has received mixed reviews from critics, but has grossed just over $ 4 million domestically since it opened in December. Promising young woman is in sixth place after making $ 560,000. The dark comedy thriller has received positive reviews from viewers and critics. Matteo Garrone’s Pinocchio grossed $ 185,000, which was more than enough to take seventh place.
The war with Grandpa remains in the top ten this weekend after raising $ 147,000. Globally, the Robert De Nero comedy earned just over $ 32 million after its premiere 14 weeks ago. Come Play came in eighth after making $ 95,000. The horror thriller has received mixed reviews and stars like Gillian Jacobs, John Gallagher Jr., Azhy Robertson, and Winslow Fegley. After all, the science fiction classic Alien ended the weekend in tenth place with $ 60,000. The classic film was back in the top ten last weekend and will probably still be there next weekend.
