In the teaser trailer we get a great insight into the return of the original star Emilio Estevez as Gordon Bombay. The footage also reveals co-star Lauren Graham on the show who is looking for a coach to lead a new junior ice hockey team. It is clear that her character has nothing to do with the sportiest group of youngsters, but luckily, Bombay has a lot of experience with such things. It seems to capture the same comedic tone of the original Mighty Ducks as a heartwarming tale of outsiders who overcome the odds with just the right amount of humor.

Earlier this year, Estevez spoke about his upcoming return to the role of Gordon Bombay.

“Once a duck, always a duck!” Estevez said at the time. “After 25 years I’m really excited to lace up my skates, put on the Coach Bombay jacket and play the icon again for this new chapter in the Mighty Ducks franchise. I’m also excited to be returning to my old turf. ” my friends at Disney and Steve Brill, the original creators of the franchise, to join them on their exciting new platform Disney +. “

An earlier report by TV Guide also sheds light on the plot of the new Disney series. According to the report, Graham will play hockey mom Alex, whose 12-year-old son Evan was unceremoniously cut out of the Mighty Ducks ice hockey team. Not wanting to be defeated, Alex and Evan set out to assemble their own team of unsuitable youth and “challenge the at all costs winning culture of competitive youth sport”.

Directed by Stephen Herek and written by Steven Brill, The Mighty Ducks was released in 1992. It shows Estevez as a defender who was sentenced to train a youth hockey team because of a drunk driving license. He excels at work, helping the ducks win the state championship. Due to the film’s immense success, two sequels would be produced: D2: The Mighty Ducks 1994 and D3: The Mighty Ducks 1996. The film series also spawned an animated series, a video game and a podcast called The Quack Attack on the three installments of the trilogy.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers will be streamed on Disney + sometime in 2021, an official premiere date has not yet been set. This news comes from Disney’s official Twitter.
