The trailer for the last season of the Kominsky Method: RIP, Alan Arkins Norman

The Kominsky Method won’t leave Alan Arkins Norman Newlander’s fate in the air until his final season.

A new trailer released on Thursday reveals that Norman did indeed die. The video begins at his funeral when Robby (played by recurring guest star Haley Joel Osment) says a few words about his beloved grandfather.

Arkin’s departure from the Kominsky Method was announced in September. At the time, a representative for the show said the 87-year-old’s decision to quit the Netflix series was made “some time ago”, long before the coronavirus pandemic devastated the television industry.

After Norman leaves, Sandy (Michael Douglas) has to “navigate what aging looks like without his longtime friend by his side,” according to the official logline. To make matters worse, Sandy was appointed executor of the Newlander estate after Norman’s death.

In Arkin’s absence, Kominsky has added two Oscar winners to his list: Morgan Freeman and Barry Levinson, who will appear as elevated versions of themselves. The trailer shows Sandy and Freeman in the middle of Sandy’s acting class. Levinson, meanwhile, offers Sandy a life-changing opportunity.

On the home front, Sandy takes care of the arrival of his ex-wife Roz (Kathleen Turner). Their “notoriously volatile relationship is further inflamed” when Roz comes to Los Angeles to spend time with her daughter Mindy (Sarah Baker) and boyfriend Martin (Paul Reiser), who have decided to get married.

Other recurring guest stars include Lisa Edelstein, Emily Osment and Graham Rogers.
