If you have been looking forward to the premiere of The Expanse Season 5 on Amazon more and more day by day, we have some bittersweet news for you. One of the best science fiction shows currently on the air has been extended for a sixth season, which will also be the last. The deadline was the first to report the news.
Not much is known about what to expect this final season, but Deadline reports that original cast member Cas Anvar will not be returning to the show after facing a string of sexual misconduct allegations over the summer. The rest of the cast will return, as will showrunner Naren Shankar.
The sixth season is expected to start production in January, but due to pandemic restrictions, the date could be postponed.
The fifth season of The Expanse is expected to premiere on Wednesday, December 16. The first three episodes will premier at the same time, and Amazon will be releasing the rest of the season weekly instead of dropping all episodes at once. The final is scheduled for February 3, 2021.
When The Expanse returns, Earth, Mars and the Belt will all tackle the aftermath of Marcos (Keon Alexander) attack on Earth in the season four finale. Marco and his Free Navy wage a massive war to gain Belter sovereignty and power over the innards. When Naomi (Dominique Tipper) finds out that her son Filip (Jasai Chase Owens) is with Marcos, Naomi sets out to rid Filip of his father’s destructive influence. Season 5 also sees Amos (Wes Chatham) making his return to Baltimore, which means that hopefully we’ll learn more about this character’s backstory and the people who made up his past.
The season 5 premiere of Expanse will take place on Wednesday December 16 on Amazon.
